Rights

• Students have the right to be treated with respect, courtesy, understanding, support and fairness.
• Students have the right to learn and not be deprived of this right by the behaviour of others.

Student Responsibilities

• Treat each other politely.
• Use polite language, do not swear, do not gossip.
• Be thoughtful towards others regardless of gender, race, religion or other differences.
• Refrain from threatening, bullying, harassing, teasing or hurting anyone– this includes bullying on internet such as on social websites and bullying via mobile phones.
• NO FIGHTING.
• Report cases of sexual harassment to your Dean or Deputy Principal.
• Cooperate with teachers.
• Pay attention in class.
• Let others learn without disruption.
• Be prepared for lessons.
• Complete homework.
• Bring books and writing materials to class.
• Come to school and bring an explanatory note after an absence.
• Use appropriate channels for complaints/grievances.

Attendance is compulsory at all lessons. It is not acceptable that students absent themselves from one class to complete work for another. If students miss more than 30 days for any reason they are unable to sit for the PNG certificates and if they are absent for more than 10% of possible attendances then they will not receive their ACT certificate.

Student Responsibilities

• Be punctual on arrival to school and classes.
• Come to school and bring a note to explain absences.
• Be in class for every timetabled lesson and only leave the classroom if directed to do so by the teacher.
• As appropriate attend sporting / cultural days held by the school.

RIGHTS

• Students have the right to learn in a healthy environment.

Student Responsibility

• No vaping, smoking, taking alcohol, using illegal drugs or engaging in illegal activities on or off the school campus whilst in school uniform or on school based activities and discourage others from doing so.
• Report any threats or any other acts of harassment relating to drugs/alcohol or illegal activities.
• Smoking Cigarettes/Using Betelnut/Vaping: It is a personal or family decision to indulge in these habits, however it is a school rule that they are not permitted at school or whilst in school uniform, while student is on the way to or home from school or at school functions. This includes possession of these items as well.
• Alcohol: As with smoking and betelnut this is a personal decision out of school hours, however, when on school property , at school functions, whilst in school uniform, while a student is on the way to or home it is not permitted and may lead to expulsion. This includes possession of alcohol.

RIGHTS

• Students have the right to expect honesty from fellow students.

Responsibility of students

• Do not participate in any cheating and encourage others not to cheat and avoid plagiarism.
• Special Consequences for breaking rule 4 in addition to normal consequences: Test or exam or assessment work will be disregarded and the student will be awarded a zero. Discipline Letter issued and suspension (depending on seriousness of test or exam). Offence will be recorded on file.
• For external examinations, authorities will be informed and they may choose to the student record completely.

RIGHTS

• Students and the school have the right to expect their property to be safe.
• Students have the right to report rule breakers and expect support.

Student Responsibilities

• Respect the property of others and the school.
• Do not steal.
• Do not vandalize or graffiti.
• Report theft of personal property to your Dean.
• Hand in lost property.
• Leave valuables at home or in the school safe.
• Report students involved in theft.
• Record all theft in the theft book in the office.
• Police will be contacted if the theft is major.

RIGHTS

• Students have the right to a safe environment.

Student Responsibilities

• Stay in school bounds and observe safety rules.
• Wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
• Report damage to teachers.
• Follow teacher’s instructions at all times.
• Avoid activities which could endanger yourself or others.
• Do not bring dangerous weapons of any kind into school .
• Wait for transport inside the school grounds and behave sensibly on transport.
• Do not go to the Trade stores near the school immediately before, during or after school.

RIGHTS

• Students have the right to expect their school to be well regarded by everyone.

Student responsibilities

• Show respect to others.
• Wear the required uniform.
• Support school activities.
• Behave appropriately when travelling to and from school.
• Refrain from putting material on the internet or in any other public domain which would portray the school in a negative way.
• Discourage inappropriate behaviour that would adversely affect the school community.

RIGHTS

• Students have the right to expect others to be clean and healthy.

Student Responsibilities

• Grade 7 and 8 boys must be clean-shaven. Grade 9,10, 11 and 12 are permitted short neatly trimmed beards.
• Dreadlocks are not permitted.
• Practise personal cleanliness..
• Change for PE.
• Stay at home when ill, do not spit, do not loiter around the toilets.
• Report any contagious health problems.
• Act in a safe manner.
• Report problems to your Dean.
• Wear the school uniform. All students are expected to wear the school uniform. Anyone out of uniform should have a note from his/her parent/guardian. Students may be sent home if they are inappropriately dressed.

RIGHTS

• Students have the right to expect that the school and its grounds will be clean and well maintained.

Student Responsibilities

• Keep the school and the grounds neat and clean and be prepared to remove litter.
• Contribute to the school being a clean and pleasant place.
• Report damage.
• Accept that teachers may more readily see dangers and follow their instructions.
• Do not commit acts of vandalism.
• Do not write on walls, books, desks, and toilet walls - Graffiti is vandalism and will be dealt with severely.

Drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, vapes, betelnut, weapons, knives, blades, razors chewing gum, whiteout and spirit-based felt pens are banned.

While waiting to be collected after school in the afternoon, students should wait in the area near the gate. They are not to wait outside the gate or in the office. No students may go to the Boroko East triangle shops.

You are not allowed to leave school during school hours for any reason unless you have a note from your parents, or your parents collect you. This includes doctor’s appointments and funerals. The person collecting you needs to sign the “sign out” book. Leaving school without permission is putting you at risk and is also against the school rules.
